Biography

Dan Graur was born in Piatra Neamt, Romania in 1953 and emigrated to Israel in 1964. After serving in the army for three years, he finished his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees at Tel Aviv University.

In 1985, he got his Ph.D. from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, followed by postdoctoral research at Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen funded by a fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung.

Dan Graur started his academic career at Tel Aviv University in 1986, and climbed through the ranks until he reached the rank of Professor in 1996.

In 2003, he became Professor Emeritus at Tel Aviv University and relocated to the University of Houston, where he is John and Rebecca Moores Distinguished Professor of Biology and Biochemistry.

His research focuses on evolutionary bioinformatics of genes and genomes. Dan Graur has authored and coauthored five books and more than 150 research articles, reviews, book chapters, and commentaries.

Dan Graur has had visiting appointments in Australia, Denmark, France, Germany, Japan, Switzerland, Taiwan, and the United States.

In 2015, he was elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
