Prof. Dan Peer Elected to the NAE for Revolutionary Advances in RNA Delivery and Genomic Editing
Peer is the 10th Israeli scientist to be elected to the prestigious academy, the first Israeli biologist and Tel Aviv University researcher to become a member
The Shmunis School of Biomedicine and Cancer Research would like to congratulate Professor Dan Peer on his election as a member of the prestigious National Academy of Engineering for his research in developing innovative strategies for systemic, cell-specific delivery of ribonucleic acid (RNA) payloads.
Professor Peer’s groundbreaking research was the first to demonstrate, back in 2008, the ability to deliver small RNA molecules into immune cells inside the body in order to silence the activity of specific genes.
In 2018, he was the first to demonstrate the ability to deliver messenger RNA molecules into specific cells in vivo.
Two years later, he presented a novel technology for therapeutic-level genomic editing of tumor cells in vivo, enabling the development of groundbreaking oncological therapies now in clinical trials.
Recently, he was also able to develop the first ever effective messenger RNA vaccine for bacteria.
Peer is the 10th Israeli scientist to be elected to the prestigious academy, the first Israeli biologist and Tel Aviv University researcher to become a member.
